What is ACTEW?
Founded in 1987, A Commitment to Training and Employment for Women (ACTEW) is a provincial umbrella group of supporters, trainers, agencies, and organizations delivering employment and training services to women in Ontario, Canada. ACTEW's mission is to promote and support community-based training opportunities for women.
ACTEW promotes women's full economic and social participation in the Canadian labour force by supporting community-based training programs through:
- Networking, information sharing, and professional development with our members and within the community-based training sector
- Capacity-Building Projects and Sector Development
- Public Education
- Research and Publications

Deanna Yerichuk:
Deanna is ACTEW's Executive Director and the former program manager of "Putting Women in the Picture". Deanna is also ACTEW's representative on the Service Delivery Advisory Group to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.Deanna has worked in the community-based training sector in Ontario since moving to Toronto in 2000. Before 2000, Deanna worked with street-affected youth in Edmonton, managing multi-stakeholder projects. These days, Deanna is turning her efforts to policy analysis and government relations. She is also currently pursuing her Masters degree in Adult Education in Toronto.
Paula Wansbrough:
Paula currently leads "Putting Women in the Picture", ACTEW's policy analysis project that identifies ways new labour agreements affect women's economic self-sufficiency in Ontario.Paula also manages another ACTEW project, "Moving onto Success", which offers support to job-seeking violence survivors and their employers, in partnership with Springtide Resources, the YWCA, and York University. Previously, Paula worked on legal issues for women and their families with CLEONet.ca and the Ontario Women's Justice Network.
